Ambie Abaño

Ambie Abaño’s transition from painting to printmaking led her to explore the medium as she looks into the material and technique of portraiture. Her experiments began with two-dimensional prints and progressed to sculptures of portraits and figures, installations, and mixed-media pieces, all of which included elements of conventional printmaking techniques.

Born in Manila in 1967, Ambie Abaño chose to become a visual artist instead of an architect. She has a large following in Asia, including the Philippines. Abaño teaches at the College of Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines. She has been president of the Philippine Association of Printmakers for the last six years and continues to participate in their training program.
