Joel Mahilum was born on March 18, 1974. He attended the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts for his education. Joel is Tony Mahilum’s second son. Born into a family of artists, it was natural that he would gravitate towards the arts. Instead of the lively mystery that most artists depict, he began his career by painting children with a serene, contemplative mood. One could perceive a calm, innocent mood portrayed on canvas with the modern, stylized textures gently contracting the tranquil, focused subject.
