Filipino artist Winner Jumalon was born in 1984 and is renowned for using a range ofmedia to tackle classic subjects in a modern way. His unique style was formed at theUniversity of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, where he received his degree. Jumalon’s numerous exhibitions in local galleries and art fairs have made asubstantial contribution to the Philippine contemporary art scene. He has worked with artists including Alfredo Esquillo Jr., whose work frequentlyexamines cultural narratives, and Lynyrd Paras, whose works are characterized bytheir vibrancy and expressiveness. Although he is not directly related to Jumalon,Rodel Tapaya is one of Jumalon’s creative contemporaries and incorporates folkloreinto his works. Jumalon’s reputation in Southeast Asian contemporary art has grown as a result ofthe praise his works have received from the art world.
